Trump warns Iran of 'heavy hit' as Tehran boosts Gulf diplomacy
President Donald Trump warned Iran of a potential "heavy hit" and possible further strikes, saying he may have to "destroy the rest of the country" to ensure its nuclear program cannot be revived. He stated a decision on widening the war would come soon. Trump's remarks followed Democratic midterm wins that could limit his options before a new Congress arrives. He acknowledged 18 US service members have died in the conflict and claimed Iran could take 25 to 30 years to rebuild. Two US officials said the Oval Office meeting was the first on Iran since the midterms. Iran has stepped up Gulf diplomacy, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi holding calls with counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Turkey, Jordan, and Kuwait. Oman and Iran stressed the need for maritime security and renewed dialogue. Meanwhile, four attacks occurred in the Strait of Hormuz over 96 hours, and Brent crude oil prices held gains at $98.29 a barrel.
