UN report accuses Israel of genocide and crimes against humanity in Gaza and West Bank
A UN-mandated commission accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza and crimes against humanity including extermination in the West Bank, in a report released Monday. The findings were flatly rejected by Israel as a misinformation campaign. The Independent International Commission of Inquiry said Israeli forces waged a "widespread and systematic attack" on West Bank civilians, citing torture, rape, and persecution. It also stated Israel continues genocidal acts in Gaza, urging an end to the unlawful occupation and removal of settlers. The report also criticized the Palestinian Authority for targeting dissenters and failing to investigate killings. The commission, established in 2021, is set to present its findings to the UN General Assembly on Monday, ahead of Israel's general election.
