Israeli military launches major West Bank crackdown ahead of election
The Israeli military continued a large-scale operation in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, displacing hundreds of Palestinians and imposing movement restrictions following a gun attack that killed two Israeli soldiers near Hebron on Friday. The operation, which the military said covered over 400 locations and included 40 arrests, has displaced more than 2,200 people, including nearly 300 children, according to Hebron officials. Most Palestinian workers are barred from entering settlements, and crossings into Israel remain closed until after Tuesday's election. The crackdown comes days before Israel's election, seen as a referendum on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's security policies. Hebron's mayor said the blockade has sealed the city, forcing businesses to close, while six Israelis and 112 Palestinians have been killed in West Bank violence this year.
