UN commission: Israel committed genocide in Gaza after ceasefire
A United Nations commission reported Monday that Israel has continued committing genocide in Gaza since last October's U.S.-brokered ceasefire, a finding Israel dismissed as part of a misinformation campaign. The report examines violations against Palestinian children from October 7, 2023, through September 2026. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry accused Israeli authorities of genocidal acts with intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza, and also documented war crimes in the West Bank, including extermination, torture, and sexual violence against detainees. Israeli forces allegedly used heavy munitions and sniper fire in densely populated areas during the truce, with the ceasefire line encroaching into Gaza. Palestinian authorities report over 74,000 deaths in the assault, launched after Hamas killed about 1,200 people in Israel on October 7, 2023. The commission also noted West Bank displacement of 34,176 Palestinians since January 2025, the largest since 1967, and faulted the Palestinian Authority for targeting dissenting voices.
