Israel seals West Bank for election day after Hebron attack displaces 2,000 Palestinians

spiegel.de (German) —

Israel's military will seal off the West Bank on election day, following a deadly Palestinian attack near Hebron that killed two soldiers and displaced around 2,000 Palestinians from their homes. Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the displacement in Hebron, stating troops are operating there until "all problems with Hamas are solved." The military conducted anti-terror raids in roughly 40 areas, arresting 40 suspects, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad members. Israel's political leadership approved a Defense Ministry recommendation to ban Palestinian workers from settlements and industrial zones during Tuesday's parliamentary election, closing all West Bank land crossings into Israel.
