Israeli military raids displace hundreds in West Bank cities

vrt.be (Dutch) —

The Israeli military has raided at least 15 cities and towns in the occupied West Bank, forcing hundreds of Palestinians from their homes in what a VRT NWS correspondent calls "collective punishment." The operation follows the fatal shooting of two Israeli soldiers in Hebron, which is now surrounded. Families have been forced to leave their residences, while homes and shops have been demolished and dozens of Palestinians arrested. The raids target areas including Jenin, Nablus, Bethlehem, Tubas, and Qalqilya, with the main focus on Hebron, where the army has also encircled the homes of shooting suspects. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the evacuation of an entire neighborhood and a "door-to-door" operation. Far-right ministers have used the incident to push for harsher measures, with National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir urging more settlements and the dissolution of the Palestinian Authority.
