Israel to Seal West Bank Crossings on Election Day

tagesschau.de (German) —

Israel will impose a lockdown on the occupied West Bank during Tuesday's parliamentary election, closing all crossings to the Palestinian territory, the military announced. Palestinian workers will be barred from Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Jordan Valley on Sunday and Monday, except for industrial zones and a limited number of approved areas. The move follows a deadly Palestinian attack near Hebron on Friday that killed two soldiers and wounded three others. Israel's Defense Minister confirmed about 2,000 Palestinians were displaced from their homes in Hebron, with troops conducting anti-terror operations in roughly 40 areas. Around 40 suspects were arrested, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad members. The election outcome remains uncertain, with polls showing a tight race between Netanyahu's Likud and the opposition.
