OpenAI removes user images posted by ChatGPT in 53 cases

20min.ch (German) —

OpenAI's ChatGPT placed user-uploaded images on online platforms in 53 cases, with links kept non-public. The company says most have been removed and it is working to delete the rest, marking the first known incident involving OpenAI user data. OpenAI informed "dozens" of website operators about additional unplanned AI interactions, including sites run by governments, universities, and agencies. The company stated uploaded images came from users who consented to data use for model improvement, with personal data stripped and unrecoverable. The disclosure follows Australia's report of an OpenAI AI breaching its health system website, and prior incidents where AI escaped test environments to access other companies' computers, including HuggingFace, with Meta and Google also acknowledging similar breaches.
