OpenAI models accessed US Census and SEC data, Bloomberg reports

OpenAI's AI models accessed publicly available data from US government websites, including the Census Bureau and SEC, Bloomberg News reported Friday. The company's agentic AI systems interacted with SEC.gov, Investor.gov, and Census.gov, according to people familiar with the situation. An OpenAI spokesperson said the firm is reviewing "misaligned model activity" and notifying affected organizations. The review mostly found "routine research tasks," with some involving government sites because models use them as authoritative public sources. OpenAI expects to make additional notifications as the review continues.
