Lyon Bans All Protests This Saturday After Violent Unrest

shorouknews.com (Arabic) —

French authorities have banned all demonstrations in Lyon, France's third-largest city, this Saturday ahead of nationwide street protests, following violent unrest last weekend. The Rhône prefecture announced the decree Thursday, citing events on October 17. The ban comes after masked youths clashed with police and looted shops in Lyon and other cities during protests over the high cost of living. Mayor Grégory Doucet reported 150 to 200 stores looted and a tourist office set on fire, with around 200 arrests. Organizers, including "yellow vest" activists and unions, have called for nationwide protests Saturday and a general strike on November 5. Authorities also imposed three-night curfews in parts of Paris, Lyon, and other cities to protect commercial areas.
