French police arrest second suspect in Limoges city hall arson attack
French authorities arrested a second suspect, aged 66, in connection with the arson attack on Limoges city hall, which was largely destroyed during an October 17 protest. The first suspect now faces attempted murder charges for allegedly targeting police officers inside the building, and his custody was extended by 48 hours. Prosecutor Émilie Abrantes stated that detailed analysis of mapping, chronology, drone footage, and testimony from 13 municipal police officers led to the expanded investigation. The second suspect was detained with support from the RAID unit in Bordeaux and is being held for charges of organized gang destruction by dangerous means. The investigation was initially opened for organized destruction and death threats against public authority figures. Mayor Guillaume Guérin has blamed the "ultra-left," pointing to the Millevaches plateau region, where tensions exist over a reputedly radical population.
