Anthropic, in its IPO filing Monday, estimated its total addressable market at over $40 trillion annually, based on the economic value of knowledge workers' output, surpassing SpaceX's $28.5 trillion estimate from earlier this year. The AI company argues that frontier AI could make knowledge workers more productive, expanding this value and accelerating economic growth. It cited IDC projections of $22.5 trillion in cumulative global economic impact from AI investments by 2031, suggesting the impact could be even greater. This broad calculation contrasts with more traditional approaches, such as Snowflake's customer-based estimates or Airbnb's activity-based segments. Anthropic's figure is not a sales forecast, as its current revenue is in billions, but signals that even extraordinary growth represents a small share of a larger opportunity.
