Texas Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa to speak after defeating Abbott

Texas Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa will hold her first news conference Thursday after defeating three-term Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, marking a historic victory. Hinojosa, 52, becomes Texas' first Latina governor and first Democrat in the role since Ann Richards in 1990. Her campaign said initial conversations with Abbott were successful. A five-term state lawmaker from Austin, Hinojosa was an underdog against Abbott, who had never won reelection by fewer than 11 points. She is from a prominent Democratic family.
