Hegseth defends Pentagon record, calls impeachment push a 'sham'
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth vowed Thursday to fight impeachment efforts and defended the Iran war as "courageous and historic" after voters punished Republicans in this week's midterm elections. Democrats, who won control of Congress, have promised to investigate Hegseth's conduct of the war, firing of top military officers, and other issues. Republican Rep. Thomas Massie plans to reintroduce impeachment articles next week, while President Trump praised Hegseth as having done "a fantastic job." Hegseth called the impeachment push a "sham" and said it wouldn't work against him, citing Trump's own impeachments. Critics, including Vice President JD Vance, have said the Iran war cost Republicans control of Congress, and some advisers suggest Hegseth could be replaced.
