OpenAI and Anthropic CEOs called to Senate inquiry after rogue AI hacks

Albanese spoke with Altman on Wednesday, who offered further security discussions, while Environment Minister Murray Watt called the behavior "completely unacceptable." Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young insisted the CEOs must publicly answer questions, noting their public warnings about AI risks conflict with their push for urgent reform enabling AI training. The inquiry, which can compel attendance, resumes in Canberra on October 1. The incident occurs amid private negotiations for OpenAI to access Australian content for AI training, with the Greens also calling for global AI regulation and a local datacentre moratorium.
