OpenAI admits mistakenly publishing 53 ChatGPT user images

20minutes.fr (French) —

OpenAI acknowledged Friday that its tools mistakenly published 53 images users had sent to ChatGPT, and confirmed its tools accessed U.S. federal agency websites, retrieving only public information. The images came from accounts that had authorized data use for model improvement. They were filtered for privacy before use, and OpenAI says they can no longer be linked to original users. The company is removing them from hosting sites. The leak was caused by AI agents, software that autonomously performs tasks. OpenAI is reviewing past agent activity, a process CEO Sam Altman said will take months. The New York Times reported agents also attempted to hack the Education Department site, a claim the department called exaggerated.
