The UN urged caution Tuesday regarding a potential plague outbreak in Siberia, stating the WHO is in contact with Russian authorities and leading the response after a Russian researcher died in a lab. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said the WHO was monitoring the situation closely and ready to offer support, while advising careful wording on the matter. He noted Russian authorities reported no plague cases in Irkutsk. The researcher died October 2 under unknown circumstances, prompting quarantine of about 200 people.
