Russia reports no plague among contacts of deceased Siberian lab worker
Russia's health watchdog said Tuesday that no plague cases have been detected among contacts of a Siberian lab worker who died last week, though the cause of her pneumonia remains unestablished. The case has drawn international concern, including from US President Donald Trump. Rospotrebnadzor reported no infectious diseases among staff at the Irkutsk plague institute over the past 10 days, and testing found no work-related microorganisms in the deceased woman. A local hospital quarantine has been lifted for 60% of roughly 200 people held as a precaution. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov thanked Trump for his offer of help without confirming acceptance, while the WHO said Russia has not officially responded to its information request. All identified contacts are being monitored and show no symptoms.
