Trump to press Putin on Siberian lab death
President Donald Trump said he would speak "very soon" with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the reported plague death of a laboratory technician in Siberia, as the US pressed Russia for transparency. Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged Russia to share information, and the WHO also called for transparency under international health regulations. Russian authorities denied imposing anti-plague measures and said postmortem tests found no disease, with the cause of death listed as "undetermined." The Wall Street Journal reported the US sent Russia a confidential diplomatic demarche over the issue. The WHO assessed the risk to Irkutsk as "moderate to low," while Russia countered by highlighting US measles outbreaks and a fatal plague case in New Mexico.
