Used diesel car prices fell to an average of £13,802 last month, down £850 since the start of the US war with Tehran, as UK diesel pump prices hit a record £2 per litre. The drop follows a peak of nearly £18,000 in January 2022, driven by rising oil costs from the Russia-Ukraine war and the Iran conflict. Used petrol vehicles declined less, with diesel priced about 14% higher at forecourts. Analysts warn diesel could reach £2.50 or £3 if the Iran war continues. While diesel engines are 12-19% more efficient, the RAC Foundation notes the fuel cost may outweigh this, though 4.8 million diesel van owners lack practical alternatives.
