Asda leads UK supermarkets in diesel price hikes

Asda has raised diesel prices faster than any other major UK supermarket, increasing costs by 59.3p per litre since February 27, the day before the Iran war began, with average prices reaching 196.9p per litre as of Tuesday morning. Morrisons followed with a 59p per litre increase, while Sainsbury's raised prices by 57.8p per litre. Average diesel prices across the country have climbed 41 percent from 141.6p per litre in February, with the RAC warning prices will soon breach £2 per litre, pushing the cost of refuelling a typical family car close to £110. The price surge stems from the Middle East conflict and closure of the Strait of Hormuz, alongside threats from Donald Trump to ban US diesel exports. The White House has offered to loan energy companies 40 million barrels from strategic reserves, while the Chancellor faces pressure to scrap planned fuel duty rises in the October 28 Budget.
