UK diesel price hits record 199.18p per litre as Iran conflict drives fuel costs

UK diesel prices have hit an all-time high of 199.18p per litre, according to the RAC, driven by soaring fuel costs from the ongoing US-Israel war with Iran. This record directly raises the cost of filling an average family car to £110. The price has risen by 59p a litre, nearly 40%, since the conflict began in late February, surpassing the previous record of 199.09p set in June 2022. RAC attributes the surge to disrupted oil production and transportation, with Brent crude now around $108 per barrel, up from $73 pre-war. RAC warns the increase will pass costs to consumers through goods and services reliant on diesel lorries. Supply is further constrained by Russia's export ban and UK reliance on imports, as domestic refineries cannot meet diesel demand.
