Indian shares open lower as global pressures weigh on markets
Indian stock market benchmarks Sensex and Nifty opened lower on Monday, weighed down by global headwinds, with financial, realty, and auto stocks leading declines in early trade. Nifty opened 75.60 points or 0.33 per cent lower at 23,064.90, while Sensex fell more than 150 points or 0.22 per cent to 73,734.83. Top losers included Hindalco Industries, Bajaj Finance, and Kotak Mahindra Bank, while Nifty Realty dropped over 1 per cent. Analysts cited elevated crude oil prices at $106 and US bond yields at 5.2 per cent as key pressures. Foreign portfolio investors turned sellers in September after buying in July and August, though they continued buying midcap and smallcap stocks. Nifty support is seen at 22,900-23,000, with resistance at 23,250-23,300. Asian markets mostly declined, while Wall Street ended higher overnight.
