UK diesel price hits record high above 200p per litre

The average price of diesel in the UK is set to exceed 200p per litre for the first time, breaking the previous record of 199.09p set in June 2022. This marks a new historic high for fuel costs. The rise is driven by reduced Russian diesel exports after Ukrainian drone attacks damaged refineries, and by the US-Iran war disrupting global trade, including Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Unleaded petrol has also climbed to 174.13p per litre, up 41.3p since the conflict began. RAC policy head Simon Williams warned the increase will hit households and businesses, with filling an average family car now costing nearly £110, and higher transport costs likely passed to consumers. Data shows 15.1 million diesel vehicles were licensed in the UK as of June, down from 15.7 million a year earlier.
