Sensex falls 730 points as crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions weigh on markets
Indian stock markets fell sharply on Monday, with the Sensex plunging 730 points to 73,170.12 and the Nifty dropping 231.50 points to 22,908.95, driven by surging crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainties. All 30 Sensex firms traded lower, led by losses in Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and HDFC Bank. Brent crude rose 2.27% to $106.7 per barrel, while foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth ₹3,693.93 crore on Friday, adding to market pressure. The decline follows U.S. President Donald Trump's rejection of Iran's proposal to resolve the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, raising supply disruption concerns. Asian markets mostly traded lower, though U.S. markets ended higher on Friday.
