Democrats win full control of Arizona government for first time since 1966
Democrats won full control of Arizona’s government for the first time since 1966, flipping both legislative chambers and keeping Governor Katie Hobbs in office, according to Associated Press calls on Friday. Hobbs had vetoed over 540 Republican-backed bills on taxes, immigration, and voting during her first term. She now aims to address water issues, affordability, and fraud in the school voucher program, with Republicans having held the state House for 60 years. Nationally, Democrats secured trifectas in at least six states, including Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Wisconsin, and flipped the Texas House. The National Council of State Legislatures expects this to be the largest legislative turnover since 2010.
