Tesla unveils rocket-powered Roadster that can actually fly
Tesla unveiled the new Roadster on October 15, demonstrating a flying car with rocket thrusters. The vehicle performed aerial maneuvers, including driving upside down and jumping over other cars, marking a major shift from traditional eVTOL concepts. The Roadster uses a multi-mode fan system for downforce and SpaceX-derived cold gas thrusters for propulsion and in-air attitude control. Three versions are planned: Performance, Thrust, and the single-seat, invite-only Rocket, with production targeted for 2028. The car features extensive lightweighting with magnesium and carbon fiber, plus a space-inspired design. Reservations require a $50,000 deposit for the Performance model, while the Thrust is limited and the Rocket is by invitation only.
