Tesla Roadster jumps five cars in Texas unveiling using SpaceX thrusters
Tesla unveiled its new Roadster at a SpaceX test site in Texas, demonstrating the car jumping over five vehicles using rocket thrusters while unoccupied. No pricing or road legality details were provided. The car used 10 thrusters powered by 600 liters of compressed air to lift and spin midair, according to Tesla's vice president of vehicle engineering. The company lists three versions, with the top "Rocket" model seating one person, being invitation-only, and carrying a "Not approved for road use" disclaimer. Tesla's timer showed a 0-to-60 mph time under one second. Tesla is accepting reservations with a $5,000 initial payment and a $45,000 balance due within 10 days. The Roadster has faced repeated delays since its 2017 debut, originally targeting 2020 production with no units delivered. The event was postponed from Oct. 1 due to weather.
