Tesla Roadster: Price, Availability, and Flying Capabilities Revealed
Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Roadster, a high-performance electric supercar capable of brief flight, during an event in Texas on Thursday. The flying version, named Rocket, will only be sold by invitation, while two standard street versions are available for reservation with deposits between USD 50,000 and USD 250,000, with deliveries starting in 2028. The Roadster demonstrated its ability to rotate 180 degrees in the air and land using vertical thrusters. Beyond flight, Tesla highlighted the car's ground adhesion system, which uses turbines to suction air and press the vehicle against the road, achieving unprecedented grip levels. The Rocket version has a single seat and is not approved for public road use. Tesla's marketing campaign hinted at the flying capability with the phrase "Where we're going," referencing the movie "Back to the Future." The event was postponed from October 1 due to bad weather, which Tesla used as another clue about the vehicle's flight abilities.
