SpaceX thrusters make Tesla Roadster 'fly' in Texas demo; car still in orbit
Tesla unveiled its next-generation Roadster on Oct. 16 with a stunt featuring SpaceX thrusters that made the car "fly," including a barrel roll and a jump over six vehicles. The event was livestreamed from SpaceX's Texas facility. Elon Musk, who leads both companies, said the car has 10 cold-gas thrusters fed by 250 kilograms of compressed air, enabling flight-like maneuvers. A mannequin in a SpaceX suit drove during the demo, and a suction system helped the car cling to surfaces. The Roadster's production is targeted for 2028, with a "Rocket" version available by invite only. Reservations cost $50,000 for Performance and $250,000 for Thrust variants, though total prices remain undisclosed.
