Tesla Roadster: Three Versions, Cold Gas Thrusters, and 0-100 km/h in Under One Second

oglobo.globo.com (Portuguese) —

Tesla unveiled the second-generation Roadster at an event in Texas on Thursday, featuring cold gas thrusters developed with SpaceX that enable aerial maneuvers. The electric sports car promises to challenge conventional physics with its advanced propulsion system. The vehicle performed a radical demonstration, climbing an inverted ramp, spinning mid-air, and flying over other Tesla models. Engineering vice president Lars Moravy said ten cold gas thrusters are powered by 600 liters of compressed air stored in carbon fiber-wrapped pressure vessels distributed throughout the chassis. Three versions are available for reservation, all with 482 km range and 370 km/h top speed. The Performance version costs $50,000 to reserve, while the Thrust model, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under one second, requires $250,000. Production is scheduled for 2028 after multiple delays.
