Tesla unveils flying Roadster with air jets, aiming for 2028
Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled a new Roadster sports car Thursday, claiming it can fly using air jets, a feature previously confined to science fiction. The demonstration at a SpaceX facility in Texas showed the car climbing a ramp, flipping in the air, and landing without a driver, with Musk acknowledging success was not guaranteed. The vehicle uses 10 nozzles and high-pressure air tanks to hop and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under a second, with production promised for 2028. Experts expressed skepticism, noting the car showed no sustained flight capability, and that hybrids often perform poorly as both aircraft and vehicles. The Roadster's weight far exceeds that of existing flying car prototypes, and specialists described the demonstration as "hopping" rather than true flight.
