Tesla Roadster returns with jet thrusters and 0-60 mph in under 0.59 seconds
Tesla unveiled the second-generation Roadster, featuring jet thrusters for acceleration and aerial stunts, with a 0-60 mph time under 0.59 seconds. Production is promised for 2028, and orders are now open. The car uses four rear nozzles generating 80 kilonewtons of thrust, plus underbody fans for downforce up to 4,700 kg. A prototype performed a 360-degree barrel roll over other Tesla vehicles. Three trims are offered: Performance, Thrust, and single-seat Rocket. The Roadster was first shown in 2017 but repeatedly delayed. The Rocket version can briefly hover and is not road-legal. Range is now over 480 km, down from an earlier 1,000 km promise. Pricing is unannounced, with $50,000 deposits accepted.
