Tesla targets 2028 production for Roadster after years of delays
Tesla announced the redesigned Roadster will enter production in 2028, featuring rocket thrusters and a $250,000 reservation cost for its top trim, though the company has repeatedly delayed the vehicle since its 2017 unveiling. The October 15 event showcased the sports car driving upside down on a suction rig before floating down via cold-gas thrusters. CEO Elon Musk stated, "We enter production in 2028. Actually, for real," but Tesla has missed multiple prior targets, including 2020, 2022, and 2023, while still accepting deposits starting at $50,000. The original Roadster, released in 2008, was a milestone for Tesla, drawing Musk to invest in 2004. The second-generation model has faced years of delays amid Musk's government role and controversies, leaving some depositors, like YouTuber Marques Brownlee, frustrated after waiting eight years without delivery.
