Tesla shares drop 3% after Roadster unveiling with SpaceX thrusters
Tesla's share price fell 3.1 percent on Friday after the company unveiled its second-generation Roadster sports car, which features rocket-style thrusters developed with SpaceX that can propel the vehicle into the air for short bursts. The new Roadster can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in under one second and includes a "multi-mode" suction system allowing mid-flight spins. Tesla began taking reservations Friday, but production for consumers won't begin until 2028, and no price has been set. The launch follows years of delays and comes as Tesla's second-quarter profits fell to $1.11 billion due to increased spending on robotaxi and robotics research. The company positions the Roadster as the "best of the last human-driven cars," despite Musk's broader focus on autonomous driving.
