Tesla Roadster with rocket thrusters unveiled in Texas
Tesla unveiled a sports car on Thursday, October 15, that can briefly fly short distances using rocket thrusters. The Tesla Roadster performed a sideways roll over parked vehicles during a presentation in Waco, Texas. The car, featuring cold-gas thrusters, will enter production in 2028, according to CEO Elon Musk. Reservations for the rocket-equipped version cost 250,000 euros total, with a 5,000-euro initial deposit. The Roadster accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 0.81 seconds. The flying "Rocket" variant will be invitation-only and not approved for public roads. Musk, who also leads SpaceX, called the Roadster the last Tesla vehicle driven by humans, though experts doubt his camera-only autonomous driving approach.
