Tesla and SpaceX unveil flying Roadster that drives upside down
Tesla and SpaceX unveiled the next-generation electric Roadster sports car, capable of driving upside down, flipping mid-air, and jumping over other vehicles. The demonstration took place on October 15 at a SpaceX test site in Texas. The white two-seater drove on a ramp using a suction system to move inverted, then flipped in the air and landed with built-in thrusters. It also jumped over a truck and other cars while changing position mid-flight. Tesla claims the Roadster accelerates to 97 km/h in under one second, exceeds 370 km/h, and travels over 480 kilometers per charge. It remains unclear if all demonstrated features will be available in production versions or legal on public roads. Elon Musk credited joint engineering by Tesla and SpaceX. Production is planned for 2028, though launches have been repeatedly delayed. Reservations are open for Performance ($50,000 deposit) and Thrust ($250,000) versions, with an invitation-only Rocket variant featuring full flight capability. Final prices were not announced; the base version was previously estimated at $200,000. The first Roadster debuted in 2008 as Tesla's initial electric vehicle.
