Democrats win Congress, gaining power to investigate and block Trump
Democrats have won majorities in both the US Senate and House of Representatives, a major rebuke of Republicans and Donald Trump’s agenda that will significantly alter the final two years of his presidency. With a House majority, Democrats can launch investigations into the administration, demand documents and testimony, and subject senior officials to sustained scrutiny, while also blocking or delaying Trump’s appointments in the Senate, including cabinet officials and judges. They face pressure to impeach Trump for a third time. Investigations are expected to focus on Trump family business dealings, the Justice Department's release of Jeffrey Epstein files, and Pentagon spending linked to Trump-connected companies, though Democrats have not ruled out impeachment.
