Democrats Projected to Win House, Flip Key Senate Races in 2026 Midterms
Democrats are projected to win control of the US House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, with CNN calling the race as they are on track to gain over 20 seats. The party has also flipped the North Carolina Senate seat and holds leads in several key Senate races. Democrats need only three more Senate seats to gain control of that chamber, currently leading in Texas, Ohio, Kansas, South Carolina, Maine, and Arkansas. Notable wins include Jon Ossoff’s re-election in Georgia by a large margin, and Keisha Lance Bottoms becoming the first woman and first Black woman elected governor of Georgia. The results mark a major setback for President Donald Trump, with Republican efforts to defend House seats through gerrymandering failing. Control of the House will allow Democrats to launch inquiries into the Trump administration and begin impeachment proceedings, with Hakeem Jeffries set to become Speaker.
