Democrats win House, plan to check Trump's agenda
Democrats won control of the House of Representatives, NBC News projects, delivering a major rebuke to President Donald Trump and securing the power to investigate his administration and check his policies. The party is projected to win about 255 House seats, far exceeding the 218 needed for a majority, and will also flip control of the Senate. The victory was driven by defeats of Republican incumbents in districts Trump carried, including in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries is expected to become the first Black speaker on Jan. 3. Democrats plan to use subpoena power for oversight of Trump's business ventures and will focus on reversing Medicaid cuts and stopping the Iran war.
