US Warns Iran Plans to Target American Diplomats; Strait of Hormuz Tensions Rise
US intelligence has warned that Iran is planning to target American diplomats and personnel in the Middle East and beyond, according to a memo sent to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Two Iranian officials confirmed the plot to the New York Times, calling such attacks "legitimate." The Iranian officials, including a member of the Revolutionary Guards, defended the plan as retaliation for US and Israeli killings of Iranian officials and their families. The US is reportedly evacuating some diplomats and families from Middle East posts, though it is unclear if Iran has the means to carry out such attacks. Iran's foreign minister said the ongoing war has permanently changed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that routes there "will not be what they once were." Meanwhile, Israeli forces conducted raids in the West Bank, and Riyadh airport reopened after Houthi attacks.
