Iran warns of strikes on Gulf undersea cables and AI sites if US and Israel attack
Iran has reportedly threatened to target Gulf digital infrastructure, including undersea internet cables, data centres and AI facilities, if the US and Israel resume military strikes, expanding warnings beyond military bases. Two senior Iranian security officials told Reuters that Tehran could cut undersea cables and block repair crews, with IRGC Deputy Yadollah Javani citing seven major cables beneath the Strait of Hormuz. Such cuts could disrupt regional internet, finance, e-commerce and cloud services, while security risks and insurance costs may delay repairs. Reuters added that the Red Sea could become a larger target, potentially with Houthi support from Yemen, escalating broader regional conflict risks.
