US envoy says attack on Iran possible this weekend
A US attack on Iran could occur this weekend, according to American envoy Tom Barrack, following escalating threats from Washington and Israel. Barrack stated Friday that such an attack is "absolutely" possible. Barrack, the US ambassador to Ankara and special envoy to Syria, said President Donald Trump remains open to a deal and accessible at the negotiating table. Talks between Washington and Tehran have been stalled for nearly eight months since the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Trump has recently said he will soon decide on Iran, potentially taking a "softer" or "tougher" approach, though he previously suggested no action before the November 3 midterm elections. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that "toppling" the Iranian regime is the only option to eliminate the threat.
