Iran plans strikes on Persian Gulf undersea cables, Reuters reports
Iran has developed detailed plans to strike undersea telecommunications cables in the Persian Gulf in the event of a new attack by the US or Israel, according to Reuters, citing two senior Iranian security officials. The officials did not specify where or how such strikes would be carried out. One said Tehran would also attempt to hinder cable repairs to prolong communication and internet outages, adding that "if Iran is attacked, there will be no more red lines." Earlier, a deputy head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' political bureau said Iran could target seven major internet cables near the Strait of Hormuz. However, experts note global impact may be limited, as less than 1% of international telecom capacity passes through that strait.
