Iran Threatens to Cut Middle East Internet Cables if U.S. Attacks

tamil.oneindia.com (Tamil) —

Iran has reportedly planned to disrupt internet services across the Middle East if the United States launches another attack, according to a startling report. The threat follows ongoing tensions between the two nations, with a potential U.S. strike on Iran still considered possible. Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps deputy political affairs head Yadollah Javani stated that seven major undersea internet cables beneath the Strait of Hormuz would be targeted if U.S. attacks resume. Two unnamed Iranian officials confirmed the plan, warning America not to "play with fire" as Iran can locate and destroy the cables. Telecommunications researcher Alan Mauldin noted that less than one percent of global internet traffic passes through the Strait of Hormuz, limiting worldwide impact. However, attacks could significantly affect UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain, disrupting digital infrastructure, data centers, and financial services. The Red Sea, controlled by Iran-backed Houthis, also carries many cables.
