Rubio urges Cubans to contact CIA as US pushes for regime change
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday urged Cubans to make "discreet" contact with the CIA, as Washington intensifies efforts to end Cuba's communist government. The call follows months of open hints from President Donald Trump and senior officials about potential military intervention. Rubio's social media post appeared to confirm CIA activity in Cuba, citing corruption and failed promises as reasons for change. Trump separately suggested US ships could approach Cuba's coast, while Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez dismissed the threats, citing inhospitable coastal defenses. Florida prosecutors this week issued an arrest warrant for former president Raul Castro over the 1996 shooting down of civilian aircraft, echoing a federal indictment. Washington also imposed an energy blockade in January, threatening sanctions on fuel suppliers to the island of 9.4 million people.
