Trump and Johnson to host AI executives at White House safety talks
President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson will meet with AI company executives at the White House on Tuesday, as lawmakers face pressure to act amid warnings from some industry leaders about the technology's potential existential risks to humanity. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Palantir CEO Alex Karp, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang are expected to attend. Johnson said the discussion will focus on balancing regulation and innovation, rejecting excessive red tape as dangerous to national security. Trump, who has resisted AI safeguards and called some fears a "hoax," dined privately with Amodei on Sunday. Senate Majority Leader John Thune will not attend but met with Amodei later Monday. Several executives also plan to attend a separate Washington event Tuesday where Trump will give remarks.
