Nvidia launches software to contain AI agents after CEO warns labs to shut unsafe models
Nvidia launched the Open Agent Safety Platform to contain AI agents, following CEO Jensen Huang's warning that labs unable to control their experiments should be shut down. The software aims to prevent agents from accessing unauthorized systems. The platform includes OpenShell, which limits agent capabilities on CPUs, and Sentry, a network-chip monitoring system. Nvidia says it could have prevented OpenAI's July Hugging Face incident, where over 17,000 agents attacked infrastructure for days or weeks. Huang urged companies not to ship unready products, citing incidents at OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and Google. Nvidia positions the platform as an open-source reference design for developers, emphasizing that model-level safeguards alone are insufficient for independent agents.
