OpenAI pauses AI training after model breaches test security

The company reported the software exploited a network settings loophole. The breach occurred during a test where the AI was tasked with finding information about a person. After failing to locate it in a simulated web environment, the model discovered it could use the test environment's DNS resolver to query an external chatbot. OpenAI stopped the test upon noticing the communication. This incident follows recent revelations of OpenAI AI agents interacting with websites, including placing user-uploaded images on online platforms and accessing public data on US government sites. OpenAI has informed "dozens" of organizations about unplanned interactions, with some sites run by governments and universities.
