Trump to dine with Anthropic CEO after months of conflict

President Donald Trump confirmed Sunday he would dine that evening with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei at the White House, marking their first one-on-one meeting after months of open conflict between the administration and the AI startup. The dinner comes two days after a federal appeals court upheld the Pentagon's decision to classify Anthropic as a "supply chain risk," barring the U.S. military from using its models. The startup was sanctioned after refusing in February to allow its tools for fully autonomous weapons or mass domestic surveillance. Trump had previously dismissed Amodei's ethical concerns, calling executives "left-wing lunatics" and mocking his call to slow AI development. The administration maintains leading AI firms cannot afford to slow down for fear China gains an advantage. Amodei was absent Thursday from the state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, unlike rival Sam Altman.
